Antonio Conte gives update on Inter’s alleged pursuit of Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku struggles for form

The 2018/19 campaign has not been Romelu Lukaku’s greatest.

The Belgian started out the season as Manchester United’s main striker under Jose Mourinho.

However, his form was not great, scoring just six in 16 Premier League appearances.

Then, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Mourinho, Lukaku found himself cast aside for Marcus Rashford.

Lukaku didn’t feature in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first two PL games and would only be used as a sub in the following four league outings.

Even after Lukaku began to start on a more regular basis under OGS, his goalscoring form didn’t pick up that much. His last league goal came on the 2nd of March.

Conte on Inter signing Lukaku

Lukaku has also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent weeks.

The main club he has been rumoured to be joining is Serie A outfit, Inter Milan.

According to ESPN, United want £80m from Inter to sign the 26-year-old.

Antonio Conte was then officially announced as the new Inter Milan coach on Friday.

After being appointed Inter boss, Conte has already been asked about Inter signing Lukaku, to which he responded:

“For sure, we have a plan to try to improve the team. But it will be very important for the players, it will be very important to have a great will and great ambition – me the players and the club – to try to reduce this gap [with Juventus].

“Have Inter met with Lukaku? No, that’s not right, but in this moment there is a sporting director to talk about this and do this question about the transfer market, about the players.

“But I repeat: Now we are very focused to do the first step and to work together.”As quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
