Arsenal fans wearing Mkhitaryan shirts stopped by police in Baku

Arsenal vs Chelsea

Arsenal and Chelsea will go head-to-head on Wednesday in the 2019 Europa League final, taking place in Baku.

After the Gunners finished 5th in the 2018/19 Premier League table, winning the Europa League is now their only way into next year’s Champions League.

It would also be the first time Arsenal have lifted the EL trophy since 1994 and Emery’s first trophy as Gunner’s boss.

The last time the two sides met, Arsenal came away 2-0 winners at the Emerities. But Chelsea won the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge 3-2.

While an all English final is a huge occasion, a lot of the focus prior to the EL final has been on Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian decided not to travel to Baku for the final as he feared for his safety due to political tensions between Azerbaijan (where Baku is) and Armenia, Mkhitaryan’s home country.

Now, a video has been doing the rounds on social media showing two Gunners fans who were wearing Mkhitaryan shirts, being stopped by police in Baku.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has also spoken out about Mkhitaryan ahead of the clash:

“Of course we are disappointed he’s not here. But I think we spoke a lot about Mkhitaryan, and a lot of political things, and it’s time to speak about football.

“He’s very important for us, and we want to give him a trophy tomorrow.

“We’ve been twice in a row in the Europa League. And a club like Arsenal has to be in the Champions League. As quoted by the Independent.
