CAS confirm Chelsea have appealed their transfer ban

Chelsea appeal ban

Earlier this season, Fifa deemed Chelsea liable of violating their regulations on the status and transfer of players.

As a result, a Fifa appeal committee decided that Chelsea would serve a two-window transfer ban, meaning they would not be able to sign any players this summer or in January 2020.

Chelsea have already appealed the ban once but it was rejected by Fifa’s organisation appeals committee.

However, on Friday June 7th, the Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed that the London club have officially appealed their ban to them.

The appeal can be seen in full below. But it does not mention when a final decision on the transfer ban will be made.

It also does not mention if Chelsea can currently sign players while fighting their appeal.

Chelsea to lose Sarri & Hazard?

Should Chelsea lose their transfer appeal and have to sit out the next two transfer windows, they could be in big trouble.

Firstly because it looks very likely they will be losing their top star, Eden Hazard, to Real Madrid very soon.

On Thursday, June 6th several reports emerged stating Chelsea had agreed to sell the Belgian to Madrid for a fee of around £88.5m.

While £88.5m is a decent sum of money to buy a replacement with, it is no good to Chelsea if they have a transfer ban.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has also been heavily linked with a move to Juventus this summer.

If Sarri were to leave while Chelsea are in the midst of a transfer ban, it may be harder to attract a top manager to replace him. Because who would really want to join a club where you can’t sign players?
