Freddie Ljungberg’s Arsenal job promotion for 2019-20

Freddie Ljungberg & Arsenal

Arsenal fans will always love Freddie Ljungberg.

During his heyday, Ljungberg was a menace for Arsenal down the right-wing.

The Swede often terrorised opponents during his career, while fans could easily spot him on the pitch due to his colourful hair styles.

Now 42, Ljungberg returned to Arsenal last season to become the club’s under-23 coach.

Prior to his Arsenal comeback, Ljungberg worked as an assistant coach at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

Ljungberg’s Arsenal promotion for 2019-20

As confirmed in the Times on Wednesday, Ljungberg’s job is set to change considerably this summer.

The Swede will become an assistant to Unai Emery rather than working with the kids. The Times report:

Freddie Ljungberg will join Unai Emery’s first-team coaching staff at Arsenal next season as part of a substantial reshuffle following the coach’s disappointing first campaign.

The Times continue to reveal the composition of Arsenal’s first-team backroom staff for 2019-20.

Juan Carlos Carcedo and Pablo Villanueva, the coaches who followed Emery from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, will remain at Arsenal in their existing roles, with Ljungberg viewed as a significant addition.

Steve Bould, the assistant coach, will also stay on at the club, although he may be given a different role that is still a matter of discussion between him and his employers.

Of course, Arsenal will be hoping to improve on their fifth placed Premier League finish next season.

Can the Gunners break into the top four? To be clear, Arsenal have failed to qualify for the Champions League for the past three seasons in a row.
