Gareth Southgate takes aim at England fans that caused trouble in Portugal

England 1-Netherlands 3

England took on the Netherlands on Thursday in the Nations League semi-finals.

The winner of said match would face Portugal in the final on Sunday the 9th of June.

England didn’t start the game particularly brightly but took the lead in the 32nd minute after Matthijs de Ligt brought down Marcus Rashford in the box, he then stepped up and converted the spot kick.

De Ligt would atone for his error, however, bringing the Dutch level in the 73rd minute.

Two horrible errors would then see the Netherlands come away with a 3-1, the first from John Stone and the second from Ross Barkley.

Southgate not happy with small section of English ‘fans’

While England’s defending on Thursday was pretty horrible, as was some of the behaviour from a small section of English supporters in Porto for the game.

‘Fans’ have been spotted shouting offensive chants and provoking the police.

After the Netherlands loss, Gareth Southgate has had his say on the so-called fan’s behaviour:

“I haven’t seen it [the footage] but I am aware of it.

“The saddest thing for me is we have thousands upon thousands of fans who come here and support us brilliantly and have the ability to enjoy themselves without causing offence to anyone else.

“Then we have a group who are an embarrassment. As an Englishman, they are not supporters of the team. They reflect so poorly on us as a country and we don’t associate ourselves with them at all.”As quoted by the Evening Standard.
