Real Madrid willing to offer Man United Gareth Bale or James Rodriguez to land Paul Pogba

Real Madrid & Man United’s Paul Pogba

In this weekend’s Sunday Times, journalist Duncan Castles has posted a series of updates regarding Real Madrid’s recruitment plans this summer.

2018-19 was a rough season for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid won bupkis last term, in a poor season in which they only finished in third place in La Liga.

Of course, this was Real Madrid’s first season since Cristiano Ronaldo left to join Juventus.

According to Duncan Castles, Real Madrid want to sign Man United’s Paul Pogba this off-season.

Pogba’s Old Trafford contract

Now 26, Pogba remains under contract at Man United until 2021.

Man United shelled out a little over 100 million euros signing Pogba from Juventus back in 2016.

Pogba previously left Man United for free earlier in his career.

It’s worth also pointing out that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously claimed Pogba will remain at Old Trafford next term.

Gareth Bale or James Rodriguez

However, rumours linking Pogba to Real Madrid are refusing to subside.

So what’s the latest from Duncan Castles? The reporter has announced:

An individual familiar with Madrid’s transfer strategy said yesterday that the Spanish club considers a deal for Pogba to be “really possible”.

But signing Pogba is not straight-forward. Castles believes that Real Madrid face considerable financial hurdles in trying to land French World Cup winner.

The Madrid president hopes to offset some of Pogba’s price by sending one or more of his current squad to United.

So could Gareth Bale join the Red Devils this summer?

The Sunday Times note that Real Madrid are keen on shifting Bale, reporting:

Ideally, Madrid would roll Gareth Bale into the deal, removing one of the club’s highest-paid players from the wage bill and releasing Zidane from the problem of handling the discontented Wales international.

Yet Duncan Castles also notes that Man United may be cool on signing Bale because “there are now question marks over the forward’s fitness”.

Castles also suggests Real Madrid would offer James Rodriguez as a makeweight in a deal for Pogba.

James Rodriguez has been on loan at Bayern Munich for the past two seasons, but that loan deal is now over.

More players Real Madrid could offer Man United

If neither Bale nor James take Man United’s fancy, Real Madrid could offer alternatives.

Indeed, three more players are listed as possible bargaining chips in any Pogba transfer:

France under-20 left back Theo Hernandez, and goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who came within seconds of joining United as a replacement for David De Gea in 2015.

Isco is another option, though it understood that Zidane would prefer to retain the Spain midfielder.

What about Chelsea’s Eden Hazard joining Real Madrid?

Real Madrid’s interest in signing Pogba isn’t directly related to the La Liga giants signing Eden Hazard from Chelsea.

To be clear, Real could sign both players – Hazard and Pogba – this summer.

On Madrid’s efforts in signing Hazard, Duncan Castles reports:

According to a senior Madrid source an agreement is already in place for Hazard’s transfer, involving a guaranteed fee of €110m (£88.5m) sweetened by a further €15m (£13.3m) of performance-related variables.
