Ryan Giggs runs rule over Daniel James’ imminent Man United move

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has this afternoon provided his take on his former club’s swoop for Swansea starlet Daniel James.

Swans’ standout

James, a 21-year-old winger, joined Swansea as a raw youngster in 2014, after making his way through the youth ranks of Hull City.

After largely-struggling for game-time during the early years of his stint at the Liberty Stadium, including an unsuccessful loan spell with Shrewsbury in 2017, James since exploded onto the scene this past season.

The wide-man, generally deployed on the left, racked up 4 goals and 7 assists in the Championship, also earning his first two caps at senior level for Wales.

While James possesses a number of impressive attributes, including near-unrivalled directness and the ability to use both feet, none struck the fear of god into opposing full-backs throughout the season more than the starlet’s blistering pace:

Old Trafford bound

As such, it has come as little surprise to see James’ talents lead to links between the Welshman and some of the Premier League’s top sides.

Of the clubs to have been touted as potential destinations, none have been more persistently-linked than Manchester United.

In fact, reports began to emerge almost a month ago that the Red Devils were on the verge of securing a deal for James:

And, though negotiations have since dragged on, subsequent claims this afternoon suggest that an announcement regarding the transfer is now imminent:

‘Man United fans will get behind’

As such, after James joined up with the Wales squad earlier today on the back of his medical with the Red Devils, Dragons’ boss Ryan Giggs was inevitably questioned on one of his side’s key men making the move to his former stomping ground.

And, after discussing James’ potential involvement in Wales’ upcoming meetings with Croatia and Hungary over the coming week, Giggs went on to label the winger’s move to Old Trafford ‘a good deal for everyone’:

‘He’s assured me that he’s ready to play. But we’ll have to see how we go.’

‘You have to be flexible because you don’t want things weighing on players’ minds. So if you can get it sorted it’s better for us and for the player as well.’

‘If it happens, United are getting an exciting player that I know Man United fans will get behind and enjoy watching him.’

‘It’s fantastic for everyone – for Dan, for Manchester United and a good deal for Swansea City as well.’
