Man United reportedly agree potential £80m Harry Maguire deal/Medical booked for tomorrow

Multiple reports across the English media this afternoon suggest that Manchester United have clinched a deal for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire.

Maguire’s Man United links

Foxes’ star stopper Maguire has been plying his trade at the King Power Stadium for two seasons now.

After making the move from Hull City in the summer of 2017, Maguire’s impressive showings at the heart of Leicester’s back-4 over the course of his debut campaign, coupled with his stellar performances at the World Cup in Russia, quickly led to rumours that the 26-year-old was being eyed by a number of the Premier League’s top clubs.

Of the sides touted as potential destinations, Manchester United were the most persistently-linked with actually tabling an offer for Maguire, with it having been common knowledge that Jose Mourinho was on the lookout for defensive reinforcements.

In the end, however, a move never came to fruition.

United revive bid

Reports this summer, though, have long-suggested that the Red Devils have firmly reignited their pursuit of Maguire.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, like Mourinho, is said to be a keen admirer of the powerful stopper’s talents.

The Evening Standard even claimed back in May that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had given the go-ahead to the club’s plan to break their transfer record on the signing of a world-class central-defender.

United strike deal?

And, if the latest reports stemming from the English press this afternoon are anything to go by, then the board at Old Trafford have agreed a deal with Leicester to do just that.

As reported by both the Sun and Duncan Castles’ Transfer Window Podcast, a deal worth a potential £80 million has been found between the clubs.

This would comprise of £60 million up front, along with £20 million in bonuses.

As such, if all bonuses are reached, the fee would mark a new world-record for a defender, surpassing Liverpool’s £75 million outlay on Virgil van Dijk’s signing last year.
