Andre Gomes limps out of Everton’s clash with Crystal Palace

Everton have this evening been dealt a blow on the injury-front, after Andre Gomes was forced off during the club’s meeting with Crystal Palace.

Palace 0-0 Everton

Marco Silva’s men travelled to Selhurst Park to take on the Eagles a short time ago, in the respective sides’ opening outings of the Premier League season.

Visitors Everton headed into proceedings amid understandable excitement on the part of the club’s fanbase, on the back of a number of impressive additions during the summer transfer window.

The likes of Moise Kean, Fabian Delph, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Alex Iwobi all made the move to Goodison Park over the last few weeks.

The club’s subsequent performance this afternoon, though, left a lot to be desired.

Despite having started out proceedings in London well on top, Everton soon waned, with Palace having taken over for much of the second-half.

The Toffees’ cause was also not helped by the needless dismissal of Morgan Schneiderlin 15 minutes from time.

As such, when all was said and done, Marco Silva’s side were forced to make do with a point, as the club’s hopes of breaking the long-established top-6 pecking order got off to a disappointing start.

Gomes crocked

And an altogether sub-par afternoon’s work for Everton was also compounded by a blow on the injury front.

The player to have picked up the problem, meanwhile, was Andre Gomes.

Portuguese midfielder Gomes’ first outing as a permanent member of the Merseysiders’ squad lasted less than 45 minutes, after a challenge in the middle of the park on the stroke of the interval eventually saw the 26-year-old forced to limp off with what appeared to be an ankle problem.

As things stand, there has been no indication regarding whether Gomes’ injury is a serious one or not.
