Nuno Santo explains why Adama Traore missed Wolves’ clash with Pyunik

Pyunik 0-Wolves 4

Wolves took on FC Pyunik in the first leg of their third Europa League qualifying round on Thursday the 8th of August.

Despite being away from home, Wolves would dominate the tie with Matt Doherty opening the scoring in the 29th minute.

Raul Jimenez then bagged himself a brace between the 42nd and 46th minute.

Ruben Neves would come off the bench to make it 4-0 in the 91st minute.

The English outfit now have a very commanding lead heading into the reverse leg, which takes place on Thursday, August 15th.

Speaking about the game, Nuno Santo stated:

“It was good. They [Pyunik] started strong, pressing, high intensity, it was important to keep the shape and we managed well the game.

“It’s been a totally different pre-season, we had a lot of trips all over the world, but I’m pleased with the discipline and hard work of the boys, it’s amazing how they work, they train for themselves, they respect themselves and it’s about the team.

“I’m pleased with how clinical we’ve been.” As quoted by the Telegraph.

Traore’s absence

One notable absence from Wolves’ squad on Thursday was Adama Traore.

While Traore hasn’t had the greatest of times since he joined Wolves from Middlesbrough, he is still normally a feature in Wolves’ matchday squads.

However, the Spaniard was completely omitted vs Pyunik with Santo explaining the reason why post-match:

“He had a problem with his passport … he didn’t know.

“It’s impossible to travel with an ID card so he couldn’t travel with us. He’ll join us for the next game.” As quoted by the Telegraph.
