Official: Southampton sign Kevin Danso from Augsburg

Southampton land Danso

The English summer transfer window shut at 5 pm on Thursday.

Southampton had already completed deals for Danny Ings, who is now a permanent Saints player, as well as Che Adams and Moussa Djenepo.

However, Southampton have managed to push a last-minute deal through the door.

The Saints announced on Friday morning that they have completed the signing of Kevin Danso from German outfit, Augsburg.

Danso has joined the Premier League side on a season-long loan with the English outfit having the exclusive option to buy next summer.

The 20-year-old central defender has made 44 appearances for Augsburg’s senior side, including 21 this past season.

Danso & Hasenhuttl comments

On signing for Southampton, Danso stated:

“I’m delighted to join a club that has produced a lot of great players. I’m ready for the challenge and really excited to get started, and also to get to know the fans and the rest of the lads too.

“I’m looking forward to working with such a great coach in Ralph Hasenhüttl as well. He has produced a lot of young players and showed a huge amount of belief in them, so I hope I can be another one who can benefit from him.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to show what I can do. Southampton is a great club, the manager is a great coach, and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity.” As quoted by Southampton’s official website.

Ralph Hasenhuttl also commented on his latest addition:

“I am very pleased we have been able to bring Kevin into the club.

“He fits the profile of player that we want to bring here to Southampton. He is in the early part of his career, but he has good experience already, with a lot of existing qualities and the potential to develop even further.

“We have made some good additions in our attack during the transfer window, with Ché Adams and Moussa Djenepo. And, like them, Kevin is another signing that fits our model of being a talented, young player who adds quality to our first-team squad.

“He will improve our defensive options, so this is an excellent way for us to finish our business.” As quoted by Southampton’s official website.

Burnley vs Southampton

Southampton will take on Burnley this Saturday to kick off their Premier League campaign.

While Southampton fans may have been hopeful Danso could play a role vs the Clarets, Southampton have stated otherwise.

They claim that Danso will not link up with the squad till after Saturday’s game.

However, Southampton do state Danso will train ahead of Southampton’s first home game, which is vs Liverpool.

Southampton finished last season down in 16th spot with Burnley one point above them in 15th place.
