West Ham dealt Felipe Anderson injury blow vs Man City

West Ham United were this afternoon handed an early-season blow on the injury-front, as Felipe Anderson was forced out of the club’s meeting with Manchester City.

City run riot

Manuel Pellegrini’s men welcomed champions City to the London Stadium a short time ago, in the sides’ respective Premier League opener.

There was widespread excitement around the stadium ahead of kick-off, on the back of an impressive summer transfer window for West Ham, which saw the likes of Pablo Fornals and Sebastien Haller join the Hammers.

What subsequently unfolded over the 90 minutes in the English capital, though, saw the hosts brought firmly back down to earth.

A dominant display on the part of Pep Guardiola’s City eventually saw the Citizens emerge with a 5-0 victory.

Raheem Sterling carried his stellar goalscoring form from last season into proceedings this afternoon, bagging a hat-trick.

Gabriel Jesus and substitute Sergio Aguero, meanwhile, both also got off the mark for the campaign.

Anderson crocked

And an altogether miserable day for West Ham was compounded by a blow on the injury front.

The player to have picked up the problem was Felipe Anderson.

The Brazilian pulled up with what appeared to be a thigh issue just past the hour mark, before being replaced by Javier Hernandez.

Premier League injury expert Ben Dinnery has since suggested that Anderson may have picked up a dead leg:
