Fabio Capello on new Inter pair: Romelu Lukaku ‘not world class’/Alexis Sanchez ‘can make the difference’

Legendary Italian tactician Fabio Capello has today provided his take on the arrivals of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez at Inter Milan this summer.

Swapping Manchester for Milan

Amid a transfer window filled with rumours surrounding some of the star attackers plying their trade at Old Trafford, Lukaku and Sanchez secured respective departures over the course of the last month.

First, hitman Lukaku joined Serie A giants Inter Milan, in a £73 million deal:

And Sanchez soon followed suit, joining teammate Lukaku at the San Siro.

The Chilean’s move, though, came in the form of a loan:

‘A good player, but not world class’

And one former manager, long-regarded as a legend amongst Serie A clubs, has today provided his take on Inter’s latest crop of attacking additions.

The tactician in question is Fabio Capello.

First off, on Lukaku, who has found the net twice in his first two appearances for Antonio Conte’s Nerazzurri, former England boss Capello revealed his opinion that while the Belgian powerhouse is ‘of use’ on the pitch, he is not the world-class signing that many Inter fans were likely hoping for:

‘Lukaku is a good player with good movement. He scored two goals, one was a penalty and the other an error from the goalkeeper. He is of use on the field, but is not world class.’

On Sanchez, meanwhile, Capello revealed his opinion that the 30-year-old can still be a difference-maker, despite his recent struggles on the pitch:

‘Sanchez has quality and in some areas of the field, he can make the difference, if he wants to. It’s a little like what Franck Ribery did for Fiorentina when he came off the bench against Napoli, he can use his pace.’
