Knee injury & family issues: Nabil Fekir claims Liverpool lied

Nabil Fekir & not joining Liverpool

It’s been quite a while since Nabil Fekir didn’t join Liverpool.

Fekir was supposedly on the verge of switching from Lyon to Anfield over 12 months ago.

However, as everyone now knows, Liverpool never completed the deal to sign Fekir.

That’s after the French international had a medical ahead before he expected to move to Merseyside.

A few weeks ago, Fekir finally left Lyon as he signed for Real Betis.

Fekir: ‘Liverpool lied about knee injury & family issues’

L’Equipe have spoken to Fekir during the current international break.

During the interview, the Betis playmaker suggested that Liverpool made up a lie as they backed out of the transfer deal.

Fekir has accused the Reds of spreading falsehoods about a knee injury and issues with the player’s family.

Fekir told L’Equipe the following:

I tried not to let it affect me but it did play on my mind, even if it was unconscious and I kept telling myself that it was just fate. I still think about it, but with no regrets.

Lots of lies were told and they affected me. Especially those told about my family. It hurt them and me, especially when you know that’s what being told is false.

But when you are a good person in life, you always end up being happy and at peace. And today I am happy and at peace. Others are not. But lets’ not go into detail.

What was said is not the truth. My knee is good – I had a quick medical check at Clairefontaine – my knee wasn’t even mentioned.

If my knee had been in such a bad state, would [Jean-Michel] Aulas have made [a huge offer to keep me]?

But the worst thing is the idea that people could suggest that it’s because of my family that the transfer [to Liverpool] didn’t happen. It’s a lie. But you have to live with it.

You want the truth? Even I don’t know – I promise you. I did my medical and then [Liverpool] decided not to sign me.

At some point they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee – but an excuse needed to be found.
