Man United to return for Paulo Dybala in January – Calciomercato

As per a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Manchester United are ready to make a fresh play for Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala in the new year.

Dybala – Lukaku swap falls through

One of the biggest talking points across the European media in the buildup to the English transfer deadline surrounded a potential blockbuster swap deal between Juventus and Manchester United.

The transfer in question would have seen Romelu Lukaku make the move to Turin, in exchange for Paulo Dybala.

Claims even mounted that an agreement between the two clubs was essentially in place.

The one major sticking point throughout negotiations, however, was Dybala.

Argentine attacker Dybala was rumoured to have had serious reservations over the possibility of joining United, with Miguel Delaney of the Independent having suggested that the 25-year-old doubted the Red Devils’ ability to return to the very top of European football.

As such, the board at Old Trafford, in the end, came to the decision to pull the plug on the deal.

A report from the reliable James Ducker of the Telegraph added that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only wanted to reinforce his squad with players who would be fully committed to the United cause.

In addition, Dybala’s ‘huge wage demands, exorbitant agents’ fees and image rights’ were also cited as having played a key role in the Manchester giants’ decision to drop their interest.

United to revive bid?

Despite all of the aforementioned claims, however, the Red Devils could yet return for Dybala following the turn of the year.

The Argentine has failed to earn a start in either of Juventus’ opening two fixtures of the new campaign, as he sits behind the rejuvenated Gonzalo Higuain in the Bianconeri pecking order.

And, as per the aforementioned report from Calciomercato, Manchester United could attempt to take advantage of this situation in January, if Dybala’s struggles for game-time persist.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to want to add further attacking talent to his side’s ranks, with Dybala still viewed as a prime target.

Juventus, meanwhile, are expected to be open to shifting the 25-year-old in the winter window, having failed to raise necessary funds through the sales of any of the likes of Mario Mandzukic, Emre Can or Sami Khedira over the summer.
